Dr. Kathy Wendt(Previosuly Dr. Sheeran) Dr. Wendt, born and raised on a cattle ranch in
Bay City,
Texas, earned her undergraduate (summa cum laude) and doctor of veterinary medicine (magnum cum laude) degrees at
Texas
A&M
University. Though she graduated in 1980, Dr. Wendt is deeply committed to continuing education; averaging over 60 hours intensive veterinary medical courses each year.
Sumner Veterinary Hospital was purchased in 1983 by Dr. Kathy Wendt and remains her privately owned small animal practice. She is the Medical Director as well as a Staff Veterinarian. Dr. Wendt also opened It’s a Dog’s World, Training & Agility Center in 2000. In October 2005, Sumner Veterinary Hospital and It’s a Dog’s World moved to a new facility that was custom built to fulfill Dr. Wendt’s vision for the future. This dazzling complex is located on 2.8 acres and includes a 20,000 square foot regional center of excellence which houses the veterinary hospital, lodging, daycare and grooming services and It’s a Dog’s World, a spectacular 18,000 square foot building which houses the training and agility center.
Having served as President of the South Puget Sound Veterinary Medical Association in 1991-92 and she is an active member of the WSVMA, AVMA, and AAHA. Dr. Wendt has received specialized training in rehabilitation medicine from the Canine Rehabilitation Institute in Florida and has used this knowledge to build a rehabilitation and conditioning program for her practice.
Dr. Wendt qualified and ran in the 1988 Women's Olympic Trials Marathon in
Pittsburgh. She and her three dogs Gidget(now retired), Flirt and Bug compete in AKC and USDAA agility trials and have won various honors. Her newest family member, Wiki, will surely follow in her siblings pawsteps.
